Best in Bags: NYFW Spring 2015

New York Fashion Week Spring 2015 has quickly come to a close and designers, editors and models alike all impressed on and off the runways. Instead of our usual trend round-up, this season we are talking the best of bags.  We are eyeing up the handbags on the runways and on the street. Designers showed a lot of statement handbags from kitschy clutches to bold backpacks. They didn’t disappoint and neither did all the fashionistas who attended the Spring 2015 shows. Current season or classics, we saw a lot of stand out  handbags.  See our best in bags countdown:

Trend Report

Trends fall

Although we hate to admit it, August is upon us and Summer is almost over! But with the end of our warm Summer days at the beach, comes the excitement of Fall fashion. The only thing that truly draws us out of our summertime sadness, is the thought of the new season’s styles.  We are always looking forward to boots, cozy sweaters, and chunky knit scarves in the crisp Autumn days. Along with these classic Fall staples, we also love to sprinkle in some new and daring  trends.  Discover some of our trends to try come September and October:

Game on! Sportswear

From jersey inspired dresses to bright varsity stripes, Fall is full of sports inspired looks. You don’t have to be sporty or athletic to try on this trend, you just have to be confident.  Looks like this Tom Ford sequin dress, are influenced by a sports jersey, yet they still maintain a feminine, cool edge.  There is nothing cooler than the casual glamour of this jersey look.

We love the way this fashionista dressed up her jersey with a leather skirt and sleeveless coat in this street style look!

Cool Kicks!

Another athletic inspired trend hitting the streets is stylized sneakers. Designers merged comfort and style on the runways, pairing funky sneakers with high fashion.  Sneakers are no longer just for working out, they are now elevated to the level of luxe fashion.

In fact, even Chanel sent sneakers down the runway! Who knew funky kicks could be couture!!

Magic Eye Prints

We all remember staring at the dizzying Magic Eyes books trying to decipher the hidden image as children. Now designers are translating those prints into a more mature all but still dizzying look.  While the prints are not all the same from runway to runway, they are all founded on the idea of bright colors and geometric shapes.

This model wears a magic eye print with a 60’s feel down the Prada runway. If head to toe print is too overwhelming for you, try a skirt or top paired with basic pieces.

Say Something: Statement Bags

Let your bag do the talking! This season you are going to see a lot of handbags and clutches with graphics and bold prints that make a statement. These Karen Walker clutches are speaking loud and clear.

Tony the Tiger also thinks statement bags are greattTT! Grab this kitschy tote from Anya Hindmarch and you’ll add a little fun to any outfit.

Shades of Gray

If you haven’t heard, gray is the new black! Designers are growing tired of the classic black and white, and they are mixing it up this season with shades of gray. It was seen on the runways in a variety of shades. Some designers even showed mono-colored ensembles down the catwalk.

If you are feeling daring (but not too daring!), try a monochromatic look. To keep the outfit interesting, try pieces in different textures like the outfit above.

Some of the looks we love are bold and some are simple. Fall has trends to fit every mood and every style, and we can’t wait to try them on.  There is no doubt that we will still hold on to every sunny minute left in summer, but with these trends in mind our transition to Fall will be little less painful.

The New “Normcore”

The pendulum is always swinging in the fashion world and lately it’s been swinging towards something quite “normal” . Normcore is the name that  the trend forecasters at K-HOLE have penned for this emerging trend. In case you haven’t heard, this interesting fashion phenomenon has been described as the desire to be blank or plain. It’s a trend that is seemingly sensible and everyday. For instance we are seeing the once high heel slinging fashion bloggers  wearing ordinary sensible shoes like Birkenstocks and New Balance sneakers with their designer attire. We have gone from extreme and unique high heels (think Lady Gaga platforms) to the need to be comfortable and practical in flats and sneakers. Basic tees, mock turtlenecks, baseball caps, and khakis all fall under this normcore trend.

birkenstocks3Birkenstock makes a comeback.

new-balance-street-style-blackNew Balance is no longer just for your dad.

Over the past few years the trend has been to be different and to standout.  However that has become exhausting and people are seeking style in the opposite spectrum. They are looking to fit in rather then to standout.  In fact in the fashion world it has been “in vogue” to  be extremely individual. However now that fast fashion has made it easier to be an “individual” , the only way to stand out is to make the un-cool cool. The goal is to be confident in these plain intelligent styles; no need for  in your face fashion.  But don’t get us wrong, these perfectly pedestrian styles can be tres chic. Check out  some Normcore looks here:

Will “normcore last? And would you wear the trend? Let us know.

We are often so busy planning our own wardrobes, sometimes we forget about the leading men in our lives! Of course, we love to look our very best but nothing says fashion like a dynamic duo (namely you and that gorgeous guy you’ve been dating) who plan to hit the town sporting the latest trends that fashion has to offer. Many of our favorite designers debuted more fabulous collections this season, and we have the scoop on what exciting trends are forthcoming.

Men’s Fashion Week in Paris gave us quite a show. From the devastatingly handsome to the rather unusual new trends this season, we were treated with a delicious debut which tied in both old fashion favorites and some bold new choices!

Prints Galore!

It was interesting  to see that many designers opted for prints. Prints are always a fashion favorite; however, more designers showed a unique side to these designs. Dries Van Noten showed his softer side with some floral print shirts and trousers. The floral print is going  Louis Vuitton kept it simple with plaid; while Ann Demeulemeester showed off some daring stripes.

Some designers opted for a bold, much more shocking approach. Literally.

The Bomber Jacket

Another trend that the men should be rocking is the bomber jacket. The zip front jacket was seen on numerous runways in a variety of materials. From suede to nylon to prints to solids, there were so many versions of the jacket that it is unavoidable.

And of course, nothing screams sexy more than this leather version from Saint Laurent.

Different shades of blue were also big on the runway. Cobalt and navy were especially prominent. It is a great change from the usual grays and blacks we see in men’s suiting.

All in all, Paris wrapped up a rather successful fashion week. But your man doesn’t have to wait until next Spring to wear some fabulous designer items.  We hope that Men’s Fashion Week has got you and your special guy inspired for a special night out looking bold, fashionable and absolutely fabulous!

Fashion Week Report

The week that every fashionista waits for twice a year is upon us. If you aren’t an avid fashion follower than you may be wondering what I could possibly be referring to. Well for those of you who don’t know, Wednesday February 6 marked the start of the biannual New York Fashion Week. Twice a year designers, models, and fashion lovers alike flock to the Big Apple to preview the clothing lines from the most incredible designers around the world. Fashionistas from all over the globe dream of sitting in the coveted front row of their favorite fashion designer’s runway show. While we can’t be in NYC this week, we can dream for now and of course preview the presentations online. This week we look ahead to Fall 2013 to see what trends are going to be must haves. Fashion Week is only half way through, but here is what we have seen thus far.

Many designers are sending their models down the runway donning layer upon layer. While layering is nothing new to the Fall season, the trend seemed especially prevalent this year.  BCBG and Kimberly Ovitz were two designers that showed this trend in their presentations.

One of the hot colors for Fall is bound to be cobalt blue. The hue is popping up on runways through out the Big Apple. If you are afraid to wear all out color, incorporate colbalt into your accessories.

Black and White

The classic color combination of black and white is making a huge statement this year on the runway. It has always been a wardrobe staple but this season it is making an edgy comeback. The color combo is hitting the runway in a graphic bold way.  Jason Wu perfected the look in his Fall 2013 show.
